I've never used Akismet, but I'm fine with it as long as it works. Are there any forum admins that can look into implementing a solution?

I've added a simple but non standard step before being able to post messages (do you see the message on top on the forum ?).

If this is really bots, it may be sufficient.

Do you think it will be ?

Do you think it is only bots ?

Should I disable the IP filter to do a real test ?

Yes, I saw the message and confirmation went smoothly.

Your choice about disabling the IP filter; just be ready to turn it back on if the site is flooded within an hour. ;)

IP filter is disabled.
Post containing url are still checked against RBL.

So, we should see more bots registering, at least, but not being able to post :p

I'll search for a "user pruning" function too, to remove people that are not in the "non spam" group.

An additional update : signature and website are not visible by default, users must have some posts and/or be in the non spam group.

We can already see a lot of spam users registering on the forum, but no spam posts for now.

In 5 days, we go from 42 pages of members to 92 pages :S

But, there is 0 spam post ?

I feel it may not be sufficient with a targeted attack, so we'll need to improve the detection at the registration time too.

[edit]Google has spoken about an improved re-captcha, I may try it again.

Khal you are doing a fantastic work for Namecoin.
May be somebody is aggregating usernames to spam it at once. It would be useful to have new users restricted for the first 2-3 posts only to a newbie thread.
Donators for the Namecoin development eventually could get instant access and a special award picture in the author field - similar with the bitcointalk.org forum.

We must follow this by looking at the "self confirming group", but it'll be limited by the following :

Not sure why, but captcha or question at the registration time was deactivated.
Since re-activated (yesterday), only 1 account has been created (https://dot-bit.org/forum/memberlist.php?start=2450) instead of 1 per 5mn.

Is there a chance we can stop the current spamming in the wiki?
Meanwhile it's several hundred new spam messages every day:
http://dot-bit.org/mediawiki/index.php? ... &limit=500

The spam contains too many irrelevant outgoing links.
Google and most of the other search engines will kick us out soon.

Could we just move to a managed forum and wiki service? It would reduce the overhead we are spending on administration and the software would be kept up to date (the wiki is ancient!)

Akismet is amazing and free, it should be enabled immediately!
