Retroshare Namecoin integration

Post by virtual_master »

I think integrating Namecoin in Retroshare would have even more impact than the integration in Bitmessage.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RetroShare
http://retroshare.sourceforge.net
"RetroShare is a Open Source cross-platform, Friend-2-Friend and secure decentralised communication platform.
It lets you to securely chat and share files with your friends and family, using a web-of-trust to authenticate peers and OpenSSL to encrypt all communication.
RetroShare provides filesharing, chat, messages, forums and channels"
In the Namecoin identities could be introduced a field for Retroshare connection point and those who know that identity can ask for connection permission from the owner.
- It could be build even an open network based on Retroshare where all identities are connected and they could share messages and/or files, posts. For this purpose could be created a Retroshare namespace which could have the functionalities of Napster, Bitmessage and Diaspora together.
I tried the program and it is working as stated. The most problems are the low speed because of bad standard configuration(it is still much faster than Bitmessage) and lack of a general available network(you need to create your own network). This could be much improved if a proper network is created with Namecoin identities and the speed is optimized for it.

Sounds like an interesting idea! I have yet to learn about what Retroshare actually is, though, and how a Namecoin project with it could look like.

I have started using Retroshare a little lately and find it to be very interesting.

Not sure how you would prevent spam, though, with publicly available certs.

The cert is a pgp key so it is a little long to fit into an entry. I could not find information on standardized ways to get the pgp key from a fingerprint or something. Maybe it is easy to do this with the integrated distributed hash table like downloading a file.

A somehow related thread with Retroshare plugin for distributed Bitcoin exchange(Zero Reserve):
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic ... msg3172791
and the github repository:
https://github.com/zeroreserve/ZeroReserve/wiki
May be we can get some new ideas from there.
Retroshare has a plenty of features and use possibilities like Namecoin so I am sure they could enhance each other in some cases.

That's true.
Retroshare seems to be using '2048 Bit RSA Keys for extra security. ' in the latest version.
(but they accept the 4096 keys also)

So to implement Namecoin ID based comfortable friend addon in Retroshare like in Bitmessage we would need a value field of at least 2.5k. (or 5k if we want to cover all near future cases)
