Description :
Bitbox is an all-in-one namecoin capable virtualbox browser image. Upon booting you will immediately be able to browse all current .bit sites, and as it runs it updates itself to resolve new and changed domains. You can even use it as a DNS server for your whole LAN by changing the virtualbox network setting from NAT to bridge, and using it's IP address as your nameserver for either your router or any other network computers.

VirtualBox is a good idea, but it crashes too often causing a complete reboot
Re: Bitbox : a virtualbox browser image for .bit sites
Can you give any more details about the crashes? I'm doing development on a mac and it has not crashed once.OCTAGRAM wrote:VirtualBox is a good idea, but it crashes too often causing a complete reboot
How much ram are you running the VM with? I'm using 512mb and that seems to work fine.
For those interested, I'm currently working on taming udev to fix the no-network-on-boot issue.

BitBox alpha 3 (codename 'vancandy') has been released. Get it while it's hot.

Re: Bitbox : a virtualbox browser image for .bit sites
Seems that Alpha 3's virtual hard disk is 1.5GB. With the increasing blockchain size, 1.5GB is no longer sufficient, so I get "low disk space" errors inside the VM. I assume it would be easy to rebuild the image on a bigger virtual hard disk... is this project still in development?

Excellen idea.
I also came to the same idea but now I observed that you have already done.
I am since long time fan of virtualization.
I will take a look.
Thanks.

Re: Bitbox : a virtualbox browser image for .bit sites
I tried it and it works.
My virtualbox container is on a full xubuntu 10.04 has 6.9 GB but it is a little bit more confortable with Mozilla, wine, Namecoin-qt(win) and Bitmessage.
Probable to large to distribute it. May be I could make it of 4 GB by eliminating the unnecessary components and compiling it on linux.
However what the browser solution cannot resolve none of the virtualbox container can ether.
What is wrong with the configuration {"translate":"namecoinia.org."} for namecoinia.bit ?
