Hello!
I just joined and my first thing on the to do - list is obviously to get a computer running on Linux with the .bit thing working...
Is there a Linux distribution that is allready tailor made for this?
Otherwise I think I will choose the Puppy linux since my computer is a little old.
Or does one have to have a very fast computer to mine a few namecoin cents?
Linux distribution with .bit technology?

Re: Linux distribution with .bit technology?
I would suggest to go with Debian as they are already some Debian based related projects:
- Bitbox : a virtualbox browser image for .bit sites created by Khal
http://dot-bit.org/Bitbox
Very good compressed VM image not much more then the namecoind blockchain which is running.
- LinuxCoin - not active since 2011
A Bitcoin enhanced lightweight Debian-based OS.
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/LinuxCoin
How:
- enhancing BitBox with Namecoin-qt and Mozilla with freespeach plugin(could use the same blockchain)
I am not sure if it is 32 or 64 bit. Freespeach doesn't work on 32 bit.
Anyway the Virtual machine image should be rebased and increased its size limit as it has reached its limit already last time as I used.
http://www.howtogeek.com/124622/how-to- ... or-vmware/
- the same BitBox OS could be extracted to a USB drive bootable form
Putting a paperwallet/brainwallet keypair generator on it would be also useful.
- Another possibility would be to use an amnesic live OS like Tails(also on Debian) to enhance with Namecoin paperwallet/brainwallet keypair generator. This could be burned on a CD and already has a lot of privacy features..
Browsing .bit domains would be possible only with a FoxyProxy enhanced Mozilla in this case as no blockchain storage would be possible.

It is a 32 bit
Re: Linux distribution with .bit technology?
Thankyou, by the way for the excellent reply, master!
Some of it was a little difficult to understand but I will start by installing Debian and see if i can get bitbox going. Will also look into linuxcoin, sounds interesting.

OK.
Here you find some ready installed Virtualbox images if you want to experiment:

Re: Linux distribution with .bit technology?
Hi, sorry for late reply.timgri wrote:It is a 32 bit
It looks like thanks to pmc, FreeSpeechMe's bundled namecoind feature might be getting support for 32-bit Linux in the foreseeable future. Also, FreeSpeechMe should already work on Linux 32-bit if you install the Namecoin client and NMControl separately (which isn't particularly hard).
Thanks for your interest, and sorry again for the late reply.
