OpenSSL is a special case. My repo contains static openssl libs for the Fedora-based distributions which are used in building the *coin packages.

But I don't have static versions of all the other libraries used by namecoin. Therefore it is likely that the binaries won't work on other distributions.

Fair enough; we can try your binaries and see how well they work for various distros. It's probably an improvement on the binaries that are in the current version of FreeSpeechMe.

When will we finally see a MacOS version of the wallet ?

Booting up a virtual machine just for the wallet is a pain...

To my knowledge we don't have an ETA yet, but progress is being made there. The Namecoin-Qt code is apparently really hard to build on OS X. There's a discussion relating to this on GitHub if I recall correctly.

i'm having problems with new easywinbuilder for qt5

compiles fine, but crashes instantly on launch
have renamed datadir and tried both daemon and qt.. same issue.
Old version works.
nothing in debug.log or db.log

not sure how to debug further
