namecoind debian package

I worked on the bitcoin debian package, I'm wondering if I should put the effort into making one for namecoin.
Personally, I dont like the idea of downloading binaries from the intertubes and running them, without a trust path, and as such have not bothered with the binaries that are on the site and have just compiled namecoin myself. I do like the idea of raising the profile of the namecoin project, and getting it into Debian (and then Ubuntu) would help quite a bit.
I thought perhaps others might benefit from that work, but am somewhat reluctant as the work is non-trivial. What do people think, maybe I should shake the hat a little?
