Namecoin DNS server - minimum server requirements?

Post by geo »

hi,
i would like to set up a Namecoin DNS server. (at least i will try to ;-) )
provider of my choice ist edis.at
dedicated server is not within my financial reach, but this provider offers virtualized servers too. as you can see, KVM, VRS and OVZ products:
http://www.edis.at/en/support-and-servi ... -products/
VRS misses TUN/TAP devices and OVZ is restricted to just one virtual NIC.
i guess going with KVM would allow me to set up a Namecoin DNS server?
would be great, if s.o. could tell me before. though there is a 4 hour or so money back offer guarantee without any questions, i won't be able to get it running within four hours ...
thanks in advance!

You need to run namecoind.... so you need at least 2GB disk space.
nx.bit - some namecoin stats
nf.bit - shortcut to this forum

KVM Smart for 3,99 + VAT
256 MB RAM
5 GB HDD

KVM Starter for 6,49 + VAT
512 MB RAM
5 GB HDD

top says namecoind uses 184m VIRT and 102m RES.

better to go with 512MB, though price is significantly higher?
are you sure, that KVM is the right choice for the job?
