how to back up namecoin wallet and .bit's?

Post by Pif01010 »

Okay first to any administrator person, I signed up to self confirmed users, Is that bad?
It took me forever to spot the start new topic button and got lost .. Oh dear.

Anyways as I was saying I am trying to figure out how to backup my wallet /coins/ and addresses.

I found this on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/Namecoin/comme ... dentities/
that says: "AFAIK if you copy wallet.dat into your Namecoin profile folder and then run Namecoin Core with the -rescan command line flag, any names owned by that wallet should show up in Namecoin Core."

Okay so going into the wallet file and backing up the wallet into a .dat file was pretty easy.

had to look up AFAIK it's As Far As I Know... so I got all that out of the way.

So I get the idea I am supposed to back up the .dat file by uploading it to some sort of profile folder?

Well that's what brought me here and it took me long enough to find the "New Topic" button, I really don't know about this folder and where it is at all. ...?

"then run Namecoin Core with the -rescan command line flag"

I am almost entirely lost on that part. My other computer's wallet had a name control icon, but when I run that it has it's logo pop up for 2 seconds and goes away.
Where as my wallet from this computer doesn't show up with any name control at all?

I suppose I could do a google on " -rescan command line flag" but I am still confused about the other steps.
Can anyone help?

If you've backed up wallet.dat, then your coins and names are backed up. The thing about copying wallet.dat to the Namecoin profile folder is how you restore the backup. Not sure what OS you're on; on GNU/Linux the default Namecoin profile folder is "~/.namecoin/".

I'm not sure I follow.... are you asking what folder is the Namecoin profile folder? That depends on what operating system you're running; can you provide that info?
