Namecoin client won't open

I downloaded the Namecoin-qt client several weeks ago. Since then, I've been doing merged mining with my proceeds directed to this wallet. Now, when I click the Namecoin application, nothing happens. What should I do to be able to access my wallet?

backup wallet

download new version from namecoin.info (probably you are on windows?)

try that

if doesn't work.. go to your datadir -- i.e. c:\users\<username>\appdata\roaming\namecoin
delete nameindex.dat

try running it again - may take a long long time to start.. just wait

if doesn't work.. go back to datadir and delete everything except wallet.dat

start up again, and wait for blockchain to download (may take a very long time)

if doesn't work - report back
