I've been pondering what the potential value of a Namecoin is;

Let's assume for a moment that Namecoin + a .bit domain is on par with a normal domain, and someone who pays $7 a year for a .com domain (with no extras) will pay $1.59178 to update their .bit domain every 83 days

83 (update period)/365 = 0.2273972602739726 * $7 = $1.591780821917808 per 83 days

0.01 NMC = $1.591780821917808

$1.591780821917808 * 100 = $159.1780821917808

Or did I accidentally drink that bottle of Turps instead of Water and my brains now ams teh failz?

The math sounds right to me, but it does depend upon .bit catching on and people using the DNS. So we'll just have to wait and see....

Since it's linked to BTC, I think it'll catch on fairly easily. Difficulty is increasing rapidly, and the price is going up too.

But probably the most important thing to help adoption would be a GUI.

The calculated price depends on people agreeing to pay same amount for a .bit domain than another domain. Why would they pay their domain 7$ if it costs you 0,0002% of a block ? They will pay for services instead, and that may not change the NMC value.

But you are right, NMC value will continue to increase :p

We can see with that that BTC is over evaluated : 10/11$ a domain ! BTC will push NMC value up, and prohibitive domain costs will push BTC value down. I let you chose which one will win :p
