About the docs: great, somebody move it to the wiki. :p

Note that the Namecoin entry on Wikipedia has removed "official page" because "Sudoquai changed the official website from dot-bit.org to namecoin.org"

Sudoquai is wrong on that and shouldn't be changing that.

The editor on wikipedia who removed it is one of those "by the book" editors with a million edits and barnstars and all that, so he's hard to challenge. But if anyone wants to give him "proof" that namecoin.info is the official page, do it there on the talk page, below.

It's discussed here.

Updated. Input?
  • Client
    • Rebase
      • Libcoin
      • or on a more recent Bitcoin/Altcoin version? (how would we stay up to date?)
    • Find consensus on strategic changes
      • fees (also destroying coins)
      • value size
  • Marketing
    • Improve the wiki
      • Port missing pages from the old wiki
      • Beginner manual ("getting started")
        • browsing
        • setting up domains
    • Activate namecoin.org
    • Get more websites on .bit (maybe as an additional shortcut domain)
    • Make Tornames more known (example page, maybe with TLS?)
    • Improve the website
  • Easy browsing
    • Firefox plugin
      • Enable with Tor Bundle
      • Lightweight mode
        • API server
        • New mode for plugin
        • Semi safe data via Merkle tree and blockheaders
      • Background redirection to legacy domains (coolsite.bit --> coolsite.freedomainhoster.com)
    • Installers
      • NMControl
      • Namecoin Core
  • Namecoin projects
Have some fun and continue looking for the killer application.
    • Make atomic name trading easier (GUI?)
    • Name browser via NMControl http GUI
    • IDs
    • WOT
    • File signing
    • Even further Bitmessage integration (replace all by IDs?)
    • Electrum integration (should be relatively easy to do)
    • ...
  • Bounties
Suggestions? There is some money in NMDF and should need be we could also mobilize some of these: http://dot-bit.org/Namecoin_DNS:Site_support

I tried putting this on a wiki page, but I stalled out immediately because this doesn't have the traditional versioning structure.

Help?

What versioning structure? I hope you're not using the horrendous default theme that the wiki is set to?

Exactly.

I was thinking of a more traditional point-release roadmap that listed features. I2P's roadmap is a fairly clean example.

I want a straightforward document that gives potential donors an idea of the functionality that is coming down the pike.

I'm just not sure how to break things into "versions" since we have Libcoin, FreeSpeechMe, and NMControl.

Given that my only experience with writing roadmaps is for an organization where no one ever reads my roadmaps, I'm probably not going to be much help. You're the psych expert, you probably have a better idea of how to make stuff presentable than anyone else here does. ;)

Put it on the page - there is no reason to wait for it. It has to go public - Changes can be made on the fly: Just do it. A roadmap is important !

Best regards,

Sudo.

New version here: https://github.com/phelixbtc/namecoin_r ... roadmap.md

With the github markup it is way easier to handle the hierarchic list. Also suggestions and changes can be managed easier.

Should I move it to /namecoin/meta ?

Looking at the progress since the last roadmap version:

* The rebase based on Bitcoin Core went way better than expected thanks to domob and a sponsor. :) The GUI is still on the todo list.
* Convergence and with it TLS support is broken - Jeremy's plans are to implement TLS support a little differently via NMControl DNS
* Usability still lacks in various ways but is getting better.
* Some highly capable developers contributed / joined the team (hlandau, josephbisch, jonasbits)
* We are still looking for a niche to start growing from and attract a user base. On the positive side this gives us room to experiment
