I have installed an uninstalled namecoin from my Linux Mint (latest) laptop. I only have one pc atm. sudo apt-get update and upgrade did not help either.
I forgot to jot it down since I was so perturbed, but every time the namecoin software starts up (even after a cold boot) the blue and white logo displays center of my screen then a tiny alert style error pops up saying something like blk*.dat not found, or corrupt or something. I assume that just means the blockchain dat file is messed up, or maybe a dep on it or something.
I want a nameid but man, I'm clueless on how to get one if I can't install the wallet/client (http://namecoin.info/?p=download).
I even tried installing the debian version on my raspi but that of course didn't work either.
I ran the cmd line on my linux laptop, even edited the /etc/apt/sources.list still to no avail. Namecoin still bombs out with that error.
Any chance someone is workin on the web interface for registrations? Similar to onename.io would be cool.
I'd like to get an id/ and a d/ (.bit?) if possible.
Are there any other options for registration? Please and thanx for any help

Re: Options for creating your id/ and d/
first try to launch with /rescan option , then wait. If still persist the error try to delete the blockchain files, then launch again and see if it gives you the same error.
I don't have linux but from other user's posts looks like i may take a while to sync and it looks like frozen but it's just downloading the blockchain.
about the browser registration, i have no idea if someone is working on a website to do this, it would be a cool idea to have a website like blockchain.info but for namecoin. On the other hand i remember reading here that with further development it'll be possible to access namecointrol from the localhost with your browser or something similar, this will obviously require to have the namecoin software running.

Hi, this sounds like a corrupted blockchain.kenCode wrote:I have installed an uninstalled namecoin from my Linux Mint (latest) laptop. I only have one pc atm. sudo apt-get update and upgrade did not help either.

First back up your entire .namecoin folder. Then delete everything in that folder except for addr.dat, bitcoin.conf, namecoin.conf, and wallet.dat. After doing this, try running Namecoin again. I think it's likely that this will make that error go away. You will have to wait for the blockchain to re-download.
A web interface for registering names is not safe, because the website would be able to steal your name.
