Just curious, when can we expect any significant changes to namecoin

Check out the Beta Downloads page:

The name tab branch on that page is likely to be merged soon.

Just added preliminary OS X build instructions for Namecoin Core 0.13.99 nametab (GUI) beta, see

I'm going to do a few more tests with different build configurations this week and update the instructions by Friday (23th).

Why not just submit a pull request to the Namecoin Core repo? The build instructions there should be canonical, no need for an external page. (Not to mention that the wiki will be decommissioned soon.)
