[ANN] Time-stamping with Namecoin (improved)

Post by domob »

As you are probably aware of, Namecoin can be used very easily to create time stamps of data (much like "Proof of Existence" but without the need to "hack" the transaction together since Namecoin supports adding data natively). Furthermore, due to merge-mining, the data will actually also be time stamped by the Bitcoin blockchain itself - so this way of time-stamping is as secure as using Bitcoin directly!

A new project of mine, NameStamp, can explicitly find and highlight the connection of your name's data to a Bitcoin blockhash. See also http://www.domob.eu/blog/2015/0225-NameStamp.php, http://www.domob.eu/projects/namestamp.php and https://gitorious.org/namestamp/.

Note that phelix observed that the same (or a similar) approach can also be used to build a name resolver that "proves" its answers by showing block headers of a certain "work load". This is an interesting concept we could work on - for instance, in NMControl. It could probably share quite some logic with NameStamp.
