Namecoin is gaining ground
:D Personally I don't use Twitter but I thought that for people who like it about a Namecoin-Twitter version.
A Twitter specialist could make it.
Namecoin-Twitter entries could fit eventually in the actual 500 byte max file-size limit.
We would need
- a specification for this and
- an application with web-interface to show content (or push also if coins received)
- later a namecoind based GUI which would be at this point completely censorship resistant

The fee for the web based content push in the Namecoin blockchain could be financed eventually with add-view and/or client side browser-mining so it could be eventually even profitable for the web service.

Yes, that would be cool! "User accounts" could be namecoin identities, and messages include a signature to prove they are from the rightful owner. Like this:

Code: Select all

{
"msg":"Some tweet!",
"sender":"domob",
"sig":"GyApb/iW4tQBzAJOwlaZufBceFq1KgJDwytyvSrBMLrQhRf+WHNOk+1Jyan7XDlIkxQ7/EU3IXObUHBYvuNE+oQ="
}
Here, "sig" contains the signmessage output of the message signed with NDgQyGeyTdoopvbUD14GR536FmDiv6esuU (which is my signer address for id/domob).

Could go into public bitmessages...

Yes, depending on whether we want an archive of tweets for historical reasons or non-persistant discussions. ;) Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Twitter in Namecoin is stupid idea, DNS servers (and Namecoin nodes) don't care about your tweets and they won't want to store them as that's not related to main purpose of Namecoin, which is to store names, but not some other random data itself.

I don't want to comment but sometimes the most stupid ideas have great success if they have some who beleave in it.
When there is an apparent nonsense idea which can capture some people, the majority are so repulsive to that idea that they don't even critisize it and that creates a kind of shield around it. Just look on Quarkcoin and Dogecoin.

Some people like the idea, others don't like and others want to censor it:
http://www.dailydot.com/news/turkey-tor-download-ban/

And here comes Namecoin as censorship resistant system and helping the people to distribute their messages and tweets. Who doesn't like it just shouldn't read it. But nobody should censor it.

Brainstorming only technical details in the other thread:

There's just no place for messaging in namecoin, but it would be suitable for BitMessage. From namecoin everyone expects mostly name/domain database and it shouldn't include unrelated things. If I want to host namecoin node/DNS, why should I host some tweets as that's completely unrelated. Those tweets would be useless waste of my HDD space which could be used for better things.

While yes, decentralized and uncensorable twitter is good idea and I don't have anything against it, I'm just saying namecoin is not place for it. Besides there's already way easier alternatives. You can just setup Tor Hidden Service to host it or use BitMessage.
