Thanks michael. Very cool that thing with the product version check.

It's perfect for the use with meowbit...
but not so perfect with software that is not build on top of namecoin.

If only we could force the whole world to have namecoin wallet installed on their computer... but the damn NAP stands in the way!

I recommend to check out my suggestion which I wrote in Dev section of this forum. Because I think it's unavoidable that people will start to use namespaces for all kinds different reasons and because there's no way to determine which is correct usage there will be problems when multiple apps will use same fields for different purposes. Especially in this case it would be way better if they would have used for example application specific namespace which I propose and then they would have `a/OneName/` namespace for users. Now I'll (theoretically, as it would be silly, but still) create fork OneName2 and in my app, "name" will represent actual name not json entry so instead of "name":{"formatted":"davispuh"} it will just be "name": "davispuh" and of course this way it's not compatible with them, but fuck that there's no definition which can use "u" namespace so actually my implementation is correct and should be used by everyone.

Hello,

The same could happen with the domains?

For example to start using "lite/"

O "u/" domains begin to use it as well?

Thank you,

regards

There's no guidelines for what other namespaces could be used for and there aren't any restrictions either, so yes, your program can use them in any way they want. Someone can create namecoin DNS server which will use "lite/" (or "u/") namespace for .bit domains (or for any other) and not "d/". Now weather people will use it or not, all depends on advertising and marketing. If you'll have good marketing that your DNS server is way better and if more people will adopt and use it, then yes your implementation will become leader and no one will be able to do anything about it, but just move to "lite/" instead of "d/". And then there might appear people who'll use even more other namespaces until point where no one will know which one to use as there will be too many incompatible ones and that won't be good for namecoin itself. Currently it's basically wild-west, there's no rules, anyone can do whatever they want, it's chaos. No matter how much you want everything to be decentralized it's not possible that everything is decentralized, there must be synchronization points. This is like trying to chose game which to play and it's item/tools separately, eg. So you want to play billiards/pool, but guy next to you (which don't understand you nor you him) have chosen bowling ball, now try to play billiards with bowling ball. It won't work, because you need SAME LANGUAGE/RULES. This is why there's all those RFC's and standards (eg. W3C). Internet was also such at first and that was horrible, but thank god later it become standardized as otherwise it just wouldn't work together. You would have multiple incompatible Internet's.

Hey sudoquai, the edits you made on the Wikipedia Namecoin page are inaccurate. You shouldn't be editing that with wrong info. (You said that the official page was namecoin.org.) An editor on there has completely removed the "official page" section because of your edit. He believes you are part of the Namecoin dev team because you have listed yourself as in charge of "Namecoin corporate identity."

You should contact him on the talk page and make it right, the official page is namecoin.info

I know you're really gung-ho about this stuff, but some of it does more harm than good, especially when it's dead wrong.

oh boy. a whole namespace squatted for nothing. Thanks onename. At least some publicity.

I had liked the coindesk article to mention the controversy of namespaces.
