They are using the u/ namespace.

Are they trying to hijack it? Why do they not use the id/ namespace?

Interesting. Is anyone in contact with them to ask? I agree they should be using id/ instead - but it seems they want to squat the names themselves. I can create a patch for Namecoin-Qt with Bitcoin address support, though, in case this may help to persuade them.... ;)

EDIT: I saw you are already in contact with them on Reddit, so please let them know that their arguments are complete nonsense also from me (as they can easily discard non-conforming names and everyone can squat names in u/, too, or set them to invalid JSON or whatever). id/ is specified formally (https://wiki.namecoin.info/?title=Identity), just like their custom u/ namespace. It almost feels like a direct attack on nameid.org with them also copying the "profile page" thing and everything....

Ok, they even made me create an account on Reddit.... I've replied and let's see if they have good arguments for why they think u/ is necessary and why this is not possible with id/. (I can't imagine any.)

hi, it certainly looks nice. simple clean etc....

but something i couldn't figure out was how does the user/owner of the name control the bitcoins sent to the address displayed on their webpage?

It is an interesting project and as I can follow, in the last days they were more u/ namespace registrations than for id/.
By decentralized projects like Namecoin it is difficult to foresee the development direction even by best planning.
The namespaces id/ and d/ already have some community support and infrastructure implemented.
For id/ there is already a Bitmessage enhancement, https://nameid.org lookup and an OpenID support. For d/ they are proxies and plugins available to browse .bit domains.
I thought that something like this could happen but not so early and more for the d/ domain where the squatting is much stronger.
This could be regarded also as a king of concurrency in the blockchain for a specific service. :D

I have analyzed here some considerations and possible consequences:

I love it.

It will help namecoins adoption in general.

Let people use namecoin as they see fit.

As long as they follow the rules.

And "announcing anything" or "declaring your intentions" even "saying hello here in the forum" is not part of the rules and therefor not necessary.

It's ANARCHY people... get used to it...

EMBRACE ANARCHY!

Dont fear it... :)

are there other active ones?

does someone keep track of it?

Derrick and I added this one, "Product" p/

It builds off the id/
