I've installed MeowBit, but no joy.

64 bit Windows 7 with .NET 4.0 + 4.5 installed. MeowBit.exe crashes on startup (no UI at all), Windows prompts whether to send crash report to MSFT.

dotBitNS.exe appears to run, but reports lots of "NMC Connector is misconfigured" between normal dns lookups.

I have Namecoin-qt running with server=1 in the namecoin.config. The JSON-RPC service responds when I hit it at localhost:8332 to list transactions, etc, using my REST API console (Dev HTTP for Chrome). The namecoin server does have an RPC username and password set.

After installing and running Meowbit the first time, I noticed in TaskManager that dotBitNs.exe was running, and the log file was being written to.

When I later stopped dotBitNs.exe and restarted it from the command line, Windows Firewall popped up a question about whether to allow the program to access the network. I allowed it. It seems odd that the firewall didn't ask about this earlier?

I have the log file if you're interested. To whom shall I send it?

Michael,

Dont you think it is contraproductive to work against FreeSpeechMe?

I mean FreeSpeechMe is running on Linux and to be true - i am not sure if the Name "MeowBit" will really adopt the masses.
I dont think cats has anything to do with Namecoin ... sorry.

It would be usefull just integrating your Windows Parts maybe in FreeSpeechme.

Greets.

What a ridiculous statement. I could equally say "Isn't it silly to work with Namecoin? You're working against Bitcoin."

MeowBit does things FreeSpeechMe doesn't. MeowBit works system wide. FreeSpeechMe is a plug-in for one browser not many people use. FreeSpeechMe also does things MeowBit doesn't, like work for Linux. FreeSpeechme also crashes on Windows a lot, and sometimes just does not work when running on Windows.

I still recommend FSM to people on Linux. Even though Jeremy and other people on here NEVER recommend MeowBit to anyone because I'm not "one of the cool kids."

By the way, I know you came in late and are trying to tell people what to do here, but you probably don't know the history: I named FreeSpeechMe and worked on its campaign. I left because it was very frustrating to work on. Jeremy is a very busy guy, took days and days to answer an e-mail, and he still hasn't yet updated the software from its first release.

I also wrote most of the text on the FreeSpeechMe site. You wouldn't know that because you came in late, and because Jeremy removed my name from that site, in violation of our written agreement.

I'm doubtful of Namecoin's future. You're just one more example of why I feel that way. I'm trying to do something useful, but you and others treat innovators like interlopers.

This "innovators are interlopers" attitude has me very close to very publicly dumping all my Namecoin and recommending against anyone using it. There are other things coming down the pike that could make it obsolete, especially with the vibe that people get when trying to do things with Namecoin.

Namecoin is a great idea. And it is growing - with or without you. Think about it. Your code can be forked.

Yes, that's me. I don't hide who I am. And you're judging a book by its cover by dismissing it without listening. That's not my podcast, but I stand by everything I said in that interview. And school does suck. Education does not. You can get an education without school. School produces compliment robots, and most schools are now run like prisons.

Who are you? Reveal your real name and we can talk. Unless you'd rather hide behind a screen name and criticize me like an anonymous coward.

I'm fine with any code on any project I'm connected with being used anywhere. Though if you think my project is worthy of attack, why would you want to use it? (Not that you could, you're a logo designer, not a programmer.)

And I haven't decided on what I'm going to do or say yet about Namecoin.

You do know, right, that the recent resurgence in Namecoin's attention in the media has something to do with the dozens of interviews I've done on the topic, right?

You also addressed NOTHING I said. You went straight to an ill-conceived ad hominem. Classy.

What's your goal here? To bash people who are getting things done? Anonymously? Seems you're being counterproductive, not me. You're a petty griefer. I'm about to put you back on block, where I had you last month.

Everyone here uses user names, but is not hiding behind a user name. I know who most of the people are on here, and have e-mailed many of them off-board.

You're a guy hiding behind a user name who came out of nowhere, started editing the Namecoin wikipedia page and deleting things, and stirring up trouble on here and on Facebook in the name of Namecoin. I think you probably work for the NSA.

Your project can be easily forked as it is Open Source. It's a good way to finish your efforts, Michael.

This would help Namecoin to give it its place it deserves. And of course you will be credited.
In school your behaviour didnt work as well, Michael, isnt it ? I am sure you have got a lot of friends in the past ...

And for the future, good luck with your loud organ - you need it for your radio job and i am sure its easier to talk one-way to people then to discuss with them.

Do you know Satoshi, Michael? He is anonymous as well and has reasons for it. And as far as i know Namecoin is supporting anonymous, decentralized and censorship free domains.

I think its good and i like supporting Namecoin. Because of my job i dont need more publicity then i have it already, sorry. I am sure you need that much more and i really hope somebody is listening.

BTW:
I have studied computer science, Economics and Media Design Michael. School was good for me. I dont know if it was good for you.
Usually i am listening to people first, thinking and then talking but i dont underestimate them.

As I said, no problem.

I think you are an NSA troll. Blocked.
