History of Namecoin
Wiki entry about Namecoin history?
This is the first thread about Namecoin I am aware of: https://bitcointalk.org/?topic=1790.0
These logs are missing unfortunately:

Note that Aaron Swartz' post is dated a little later: http://www.aaronsw.com/weblog/squarezooko

Re: History of Namecoin
Yeah, when I'm explaining Namecoin history I usually say that Appamatto and Aaroz Swartz proposed similar things independently -- as far as I can tell Aaron was unaware of the BitDNS discussion. We definitely should have a history page... any volunteers?phelix wrote:Wiki entry about Namecoin history?

Re: History of Namecoin
Yes I def think there should be a history of NMC on the wiki and that it should show that Satoshi was the first to point out merge mining and bitdns before NMC was even created. Charlie Lee seems to be very uneducated on the means of where NMC came from and at the last Bitcoin meetup was bashing NMC trying to say that they had to resort to merge mining because they couldn't compete with Bitcoin. After I heard this it came clear to me that Charlee lee is no different then any other Scam Coin creator out there just trying to "sell" his coin to people.

I think the history idea is great. The logs are archived at archive.org -

23:32 appamatto I had an idea for a bitcoin-like DNS system. Basically, each generating block allows you to define a new name, and transactions are remappings of the names to ip addresses
00:01 theymos Why not just generate "domain credits" that allow you to generate a domain, and then transfer those around, too?
Re: History of Namecoin
Suggestion for "length-based cost" of domains from there:
Now that would be nice prices, no?1char/10,000 2char/1,000 3char/500 4char/200 5char/100 6+char/50btc
BTC: 1domobKsPZ5cWk2kXssD8p8ES1qffGUCm | NMC: NCdomobcmcmVdxC5yxMitojQ4tvAtv99pY

Please keep then. If you could send them to me I would like to take a look.ryanc wrote:I have some IRC logs from #namecoin in 2011.
