Hello
I have been following NMC for a few months now and am really inspired buy the namecoin project and just want to be a part of it.
I own a few NMC and have registered a few .bit domains
Here is the problem I am builder (construction) and have a limited knowledge when it comes to coding - I only just learnt what Json is ! (they say you learn something new everyday)
I want to Help but dont know how ?
Kurt
What can I do to help ?
Re: What can I do to help ?
Hi!
Good to have you here!
Spread the word, donate or set up your own bounty for something you would like to see/use. Probably there are some cutting edge programs/services that need more testing....

Thanks !
There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered.

Re: What can I do to help ?
This task is quite important, but nobody has volunteered to do it on a regular basis: to check the .bit-enabled DNS servers manually (maybe once or twice a month). If you'd like to help on this I can post the instructions here. What is your Windows version at the moment?

I will do it please send me the link

First check if the DNS setting procedure works on your PC:
try the MANUAL process for Windows XP as seen at our old wiki,
http://dot-bit.org/SystemWideDnsSettings
(steps 1 to 9)
Some of the menu items may look different in Windows Vista. In doubt consult some external help page, e.g.
http://www.plus.net/support/software/dn ... ista.shtml
and use 178.32.31.41 as the "Preferred DNS server".
Then go to http://explorer.bit/
Does it show the Namecoin Block Explorer?
Now undo all the settings by following those steps 1 to 8 in the second WinXP section of the wiki.
Go to http://explorer.bit/ again. What do you see now? (An error message or some generic error page of your ISP should appear.)

For what it's worth, a bash script with wget should be sufficient to check DNS servers for non-malicious errors. However, malicious errors are the more worrisome issue with 3rd-party DNS servers, and there simply is no way to fix that. Anyone using .bit for everyday browsing should be using something that can't be hijacked/censored/surveilled by random volunteers, e.g. nmcontrol or Convergence for Namecoin.cassini wrote:First check if the DNS setting procedure works on your PC:

Re: What can I do to help ?
You could help contribute stories to include on the Namecoin.org homepage. If you stick around in the forums for a while you might get promoted to mod. We need people to help others with tech support!
DNS is much more than a key->value datastore.
Re: What can I do to help ?
I agree, but at the moment we have to live with it. This is the shortest route to a hopefully soon to arrive easy-install .bit browsing solution for the average windows and android user. As soon as this works and the field size issue is solved and tor support is up and running ... we can start working on a 100% airtight solution.biolizard89 wrote:3rd-party DNS servers, and there simply is no way to fix that.
In theory yes. In real life, however, there are always unexpected things a script doesn't detect. A human tester ( kurt ) easily notices changes and subtle hints to software errors and outdated DNS data.biolizard89 wrote:[a bash script with wget should be sufficient to check DNS servers
