Am I understanding this correctly, that when expires_in reaches 0 the domain is released to anyone who'd like to register it?
Are there any plans to implement an automated renewal in the client that automatically issues a name_update command when expires_in is, say, <= 5 or something? I would hate to forget the date when my domains expire

Yes, this is planned, but not on the priority list, except if someone else that vince does it :p
