"Because almost nobody owned NMC when i started and this avoid a conversion (there was no market too at that time).
If you go to the payment tab, you can see a radio button to select the payment method. There is currently one choice : bitcoin. But namecoin is planned to. I'm just... a bit busy :p (that can't be done in 5mn...)"

Name price did go up to 40NMC with 1NMC = 0.10BTC. I let you make the math. Here is the current raw price : http://dot-bit.org/tools/domainCost.php (0.45BTC)

But, this price include also services, and of course you pay for that too :
- no need to do exchange BTC => NMC
- no need to do command line operations
- a web panel (if you select the right option) do customize more things or a simple redirection
- automatic renewal for 1 year at least

If you prefer paying less, just do it yourself, i've documented the steps :

NamecoinID: id/khal
GPG : 9CC5B92E965D69A9
NMC: N1KHAL5C1CRzy58NdJwp1tbLze3XrkFxx9
BTC: 1KHAL8bUjnkMRMg9yd2dNrYnJgZGH8Nj6T

Register Namecoin domains with BTC
My bitcoin Identity - Send messages to bitcoin users
Charity Ad - Make a good deed without paying a cent

I just found bitcoins 2 days ago, and just found namecoins a few hours ago. Now I am totaly for namecoins. I love the idea that is behind it! I was disappointed though to see that the domain registration didn't accept namecoins almost made me not want to bother with it because it didn't make much sense and several alarms went off to be cautious if namecoins registration doesn't even take namecoins. I finally found this topic and it put my mind to ease.
