Daniel submitted a PR 3 days ago with an explicit "renew" feature.

https://github.com/namecoin/namecoin/pull/146

However, it's been easy to renew your name: double click the name in Namecoin-Qt, and click OK.

There is a proposal to make names stop resolving before control of the name is lost: https://wiki.namecoin.info/index.php?ti ... ireWarning . This way, you'll notice that your website is down well before you lose the domain. Would this partially address your concern?

Sorry to hear this. :( This is unfortunately too common -- I agree that this should be addressed.

Thanks... just totally hacked off with losing my .bit domains then finding out that someone else has registered them.

If you have to renew every 7 months and keep checking just in case the blocks age quicker - just doesn't make sense to use .bit

I would put it down as a critical flaw

Yep, it certainly needs to be resolver before .bit is competitive with ICANN domains. Would the proposal I linked above be helpful in your opinion?
