Re: [3 BTC Bounty] TLS Support for .bit Domains

Please excuse me for being ingorant about how Convergence works, but as far as I can tell, this browser plugin does not actually use a local namecoin installation, right? (But maybe you can configure it to work on a local proxy server.) Personally I like to run namecoind on my system, and would lov...

Re: Adding namecoin "id/" namespace support into bitmessage

NMDF will sponsor a small bounty I guess. It should be decided and written down first what it will be for. I posted in the bitmessage thread. Actually MOA suggested this a long time ago and there was some discussion which I and others derailed unfortunately  https://bitcointalk.org/index.p...

Re: Adding namecoin "id/" namespace support into bitmessage

Sorry for another follow up, but let me clarify my current thoughts: What I can well imagine is to add a button (or something else) to the Bitmessage composing UI, which when clicked, would take the value entered into "To", try to interpret it as an id/ name, query the local namecoind for a correspo...

Re: [ANN] NameID - Use namecoin id/ to log into OpenID sites

I'm working on a project to make the id/ namespace more useful. In particular, I have a half-working implementation of an OpenID identity provider which allows anyone holding an id/ name to sign in. You don't (and can't) have to register with the site and don't have a password, rather you have to s...

Re: Adding namecoin "id/" namespace support into bitmessage

This is definitely an interesting idea (in fact, I thought about something like that as a useful feature myself some time ago). We could start by defining a standard field in the id/ value to be used as bitmessage address if there is not yet one (but I don't think so). Then on the namecoin part eve...

Re: NMC currency symbol?

I like the first (ℕ), since I already use it regularly and know how to type it in LaTeX. ;) (Not that I write about namecoin in LaTeX or intend to do so in the forseeable future, but anyway.) It is also quite nice how it resembles the logo.

Re: Adding namecoin "id/" namespace support into bitmessage

Currently, bitmessage addresses are raw strings, like bitcoin addresses but they could support "names" from the id namespace. Bitmessage is one possible use case for the id namespace, see the Other possible usages section. Do you think we can propose the idea to bitmessage ? This is definitely an i...

Re: Possible Namecoin Use Cases (namespaces)

Another interesting usecase in my opinion is tor/. Of course there are not that many Tor hidden services I'd like to browse (in fact, I don't know of any which I want to use at the moment), but isn't the whole idea of namecoin being censorship resistant against DNS seizure very complementary to Tor ...

[ANN] NameID - Use namecoin id/ to log into OpenID sites

I already mentioned it on another thread, but now I feel confident to "officially" announce my current namecoin project: https://nameid.org/ This is an OpenID identity provider, where login does not work by registering an account there and using a password, but instead via signing a challenge messag...
