Ownership of whole name spaces
In some situations, it could be useful to have a notion of "owned namespaces" (not just names). In other words, if I owned "domob/", then only I should be able to register or update any name in "domob/". Everyone else should still be able to look them up. Obviously, this is not possible with Namecoi...

Re: Domains Lost due to hard drive crash
Yes exactly - names are stored in the same way as currency in your wallet. So if you had a backup of your wallet (which you generally should always make anyway), you could restore the domains as well. If your keys have not been backed up in any way, then I'm afraid the names are also lost. But as yo...

Re: Decentralised exchange for names
How about an add-on for an already existing decentralized exchange like bisq, barter dex or similar, then there will be just an orderbook but with names for sale and names that people want to buy, after all, to exchange between altcoins and exchange of names is no different. both are trustless. I d...

Re: Decentralised exchange for names
(Writing a new post to keep some structure and not extend the already existing wall of text.) After some more thought, all we need is really just a basic P2P gossip network. So perhaps even writing that one from scratch would not be too much work and produce too much complexity - it is probably just...

Re: Decentralised exchange for names
These are valid points, but to me a big advantage of using the Namecoin P2P network itself is that with all other solutions, you need to set up and manage a separate P2P network - including how to seed nodes, perhaps running some stable nodes by the community and so on. Also, I certainly would like ...

Re: Adding DNS resolving features into Core
Actually, the core project is not only about having a decentralised DNS - it is about having a generic decentralised name/value storage with human-readable names. Using that for building a DNS is the initial application for which it was built, but there are other applications as well. So it does mak...

Decentralised exchange for names
I've recently been thinking about how to best implement a decentralised exchange for names (built upon atomic name trading but including some mechanism to post and match offers). I think that the core P2P network can be utilised also to exchange offers (not the blockchain, though, to avoid unnecessa...

Re: Git
Ok I see - so you do not actually want to propose how to do decentralised Git hosting; I thought that was what your proposal is all about, and was confused about how that relates to your currency. I agree that Namecoin is good to prevent potential censorship on the DNS level - in fact, that was the ...

Re: Git
Thanks for the details ... but to me that sounds basically like a design for a collateralised stablecoin (e.g. how Bitshares work), and not related at all to decentralised Git hosting. Where did I miss that?

Re: Git
Yeah sure, just post your idea. (Ideally in a way that is understandable by every reader here (not focussed on me). I think basic Austrian economics is something you can assume familiarity with in the crypt community, although a not too deep one.)
