Re: gTLD

I hope the community sees this as undesirable. Going down the ICANN path is a slippery slope full of potential issues, and Namecoin has no legal staff or bankroll. Take the financial considerations for example. It's not simply a matter of coming up with the $185k application fee, and demonstrating t...

Re: Proposal: Domains should be regularly auctioned

Let me add also that the goals for Namecoin and other systems are different. Bitshares DACs operate as a group of shareholders, incented to maximize the "value" realized by the network, ultimately measured in monetary terms. Registry operators in the ICANN domain system are companies with a similar ...

Re: Proposal: Domains should be regularly auctioned

I strongly disagree with the premise. What evidence do you have that domain squatting is a problem? Many in the traditional domain system have long argued that there are speculators, arbitrageurs, trademark infringers and others who all get collectively labeled as "squatters". It has never been clea...

Re: Namecoin and Anonymity

Respectfully disagree. Sometimes overly simplified statements are useful, like when complicated topics need to be explained in a quick and easy way and there is nothing important to be lost by avoiding a more accurate, detailed answer. Strict accuracy can be compromised a little to make things easy....

Re: I want to send a cake to Bitshares .p2p team.

Despite some seriously overzealous marketing fanboys who like to ruffle feathers, many in the BitsharesDNS community realize that cooperation is a win-win. I made an analogy in one thread there about how this is Mosaic vs Netscape circa 1994. It's foolish to fight over the miniscule existing markets...

Re: Idea: namespace for "colored zerocoins"

For what little it's worth I think it's a great idea. Building a meta-layer on top of Namecoin adds a boatload of value. Just because there's not a lot of people using colored coin implementations now doesn't mean it doesn't work. In fact I think they've been fine-tuning the implementations for some...

Re: Why the certificate system is broken

Um, I just watched your Namecoin rant: https://www.everydaycrypto.com/?p=71 It sounds like a frustrating exercise to be sure. But I guess my view goes more like this: DNS is hard to get right. The old system has been trying for 3 decades already and is still unable to get it done in a secure way. Do...

Re: Why the certificate system is broken

I learned new stuff about Bitshares from your next video, nice job on that. I was always confused about Protoshares and Angelshares and BitsharesX :) But I would feel safer driving if I did not need to trust the other drivers/cars. At least I know it when somebody swerves over and hits my car. If a ...

Re: Will the libcoin port support multisig addresses

I can't speak for what was going through Vince's mind when he created the name opcodes, but that's the shortcoming that Ryan, Luke, and I were looking at fixing. The new spec that Ryan is hopefully going to post soon, will allow different sets of permissions for alter and renew. So, you could set t...

Re: Why the certificate system is broken

I honestly thought you missed the main point entirely. Sorry to be so blunt about it.

Your claim that having so many CAs is the problem is just wrong. If there were only 3 the system would still be broken. Having to trust third parties is the issue, not the proliferation of CAs.
