Re: Dynamic DNS functionality?

Basically using a Tor Hidden Service is a great idea for privacy reasons, but in this case I want to use Namecoin like a conventional domain without specific privacy considerations. I just want services (VoIP, etc.) on the public dynamic IP address/prefix publically available with as less as possibl...

Re: Dynamic DNS functionality?

There is no way with the actual POW to secure the a domain registration/update faster but there is also no need for that. If the internet socket of your home or office network uses a dynamic public IP address you need dynamic DNS to reach your network. In Germany IPv4 addresses AND IPv6 prefixes ch...

Dynamic DNS functionality?

Hi,

Namecoin uses mining to sign the blocks. Unfortunately this means IP updates are not in realtime and cause costs.
Are there any ideas/approaches to update IP-Addresses in realtime without costs?

Thanx for any hint,

Renne

Re: Resolvers?

If you're using a public resolver, the operator of that resolver can screw you. Which is exactly the same security model of Google's DNS. That's why I mentioned DNSSEC and DANE. With Namecoin as DNS root zone no one has control of the master keys. If Namecoin has proven usability via the anycast re...

Re: Namecoin ressource records reinventing the wheel?

Surely you aren't suggesting that renaming "ip" to "a" will save thousands of man hours, are you? Yes, I do. There are to problems to consider: 1. Different key words mean every software/hardware developer has to create mapping tables. This means developers have to spend thousands of hours keeping ...

Re: Resolvers?

Namecoin's primary advantages over other DNS systems are decentralization, censorship resistance, and hijacking/MITM resistance. All of these break if you have a centralized resolver. I never meant using centralized resolvers. My idea was to provide 1,000,000 public namecoin resolvers on an anycast...

Namecoin ressource records reinventing the wheel?

Hi, currently Namecoin uses own resource records for all types of DNS info. Considering it lasted 30 years and ten-thousands of man hours to formally standardize the DNS ressource records as IETF RFCs, we'll have to spend a huge amount of man hours to formalize a new set of ressource records. So I'm...

Re: Resolvers?

If we not only add an authoritative .bit nameserver function to namecoind but also a resolver for the conventional TLDs, we can create a community-driven clone of Google Public DNS which resolves .bit AND all other TLDs. :-)

Re: Resolvers?

You cannot install NMControl on embedded devices like SmartTVs, printers, etc. So a low power 24/7 available device is needed in the lan to provide resolver function. A full flavored x86/x64 machine needs to much power (~20 Watts/h) but a RaspberryPi needs only 3 Watts/h. This still leaves the probl...

Resolvers?

Hi, as long as there are no resolvers namecoin DNS is useless. Using voluntarily resolvers on an anycast IP-address (which can also be used for bootstrapping) with rate-limiting to prevent amplification attacks would be great. Another option is to create a recursive resolver appliance for the ...
