Re: Preferred language for NMControl-like things

I'm open to renaming. My only real preference is that the name be in some way functionality-derived rather than abstract (I don't particularly care for naming projects after arbitrary things, calling them "Whiskey" or something... it feels rather pretentious). Though this is hardly important if ther...

Re: Preferred language for NMControl-like things

domain-names.md is not the benchmark. Is ncdns ready to be deployed as a product (on Windows)? Yes. Well, as far as I understand the still vague question at hand it is suggested to "switch" from NMControl to something new based on ncdns. I understand the proposal is to switch to ncdns, not somethin...

hl | indolering: Alright. Can I record your vote as abstain then?
indolering | hl: sure.
Now in favour: brand0, Joseph, me, sugarpuff, Jeremy Rand, ryan-c
No strong preference: indolering, Domob
Now against: phelix (I infer)
Yet to express a preference: cassini

Re: .bit Spec & NMControl: remove external NS lookups

That criticism of DNSSEC is badly constructed. A rebuttal is available somewhere. I think it's titled 'For DNSSEC'. DNSSEC is necessary for secure delegation from Namecoin. This is necessary for large zones. Even if it were not, it would be the only sane way to manage large zones. The problems getti...

Re: Preferred language for NMControl-like things

IMHO we should not discard all the work we have put into NMControl when we are just about to have a usable product. It simply does not make sense to restart now. ncdns (which provides DNS resolution) works today. It is the only currently available implementation of domain-names.md, as far as I'm aw...

Re: Preferred language for NMControl-like things

Could you be more specific about what you are asking here? E.g. do you suggest that we dump all the NMControl code base now and create a go implementation? I think the previous posts in this thread explain the motivations. There is a pre-existing Go implementation, ncdns, which I wrote. Very likely...

hl | ryan-c: while you're here, do you have any opinion on the proposal to switch to a Go-based middleware stack from Python?
ryan-c | hl: go seems fine to me

Re: Preferred language for NMControl-like things

If "from a user perspective" you mean the actual binary distribution, then Go ships monolithic, statically linked (aside from libc/kernel32/etc.) binaries. Much less that can go wrong compared to a Python program, which either needs the runtime installed in a place where it can be found or needs a r...

Re: Namecoin Chat Lounge - next: 2015-09-13

Seriously, what the hell? The project went to the trouble of arranging Namecoin dev meetings on IRC, with scheduling, polling people to find out what the best time is and everything, and you're basically going off and ignoring that. People have been weighing in on the use of Gitter in the forum - wh...

Re: Preferred language for NMControl-like things

It seems to have become apparent that reproducible builds of Python will be infeasible for the foreseeable future. Apparently, the Tor project tried and failed to obtain reproducible builds of Python, and had relative ease obtaining reproducible builds of Go. This puts the future of a Python-languag...
