Re: Transitioning the web to Namecoin by addressing squatter

The domain is only contestable if (1) it is contested within a certain time after registering, AND (2) the original owner has not paid the maximum fee, AND (3) assuming hashing/encryption is implemented, the domain is findable via a dictionary attack. So, if you don't want your domain to be contest...

Re: Transitioning the web to Namecoin by addressing squatter

To fix the first line (I can't seem to edit it)- Any method of contesting ownership of a domain introduces a method of censorship. Which proposals are you comments referring to, the original one or the auction ones? From what I can tell they're referring to the auction/bidding based ones. The propo...

Re: DNSNMC deprecates Certificate Authorities and fixes HTTP

I just want to point out, that right now if you use https://cloudns.com.au/ as your resolver, by using DNSCrypt you have authenticated the cloudns.com.au resolver and you are encrypting your DNS queries. The cloudns.com.au resolver also resolves .bit addresses and returns TLS data for TLSA records....

Re: Transitioning the web to Namecoin by addressing squatter

Are you saying that someone can steal domains that you own just by paying more than you? Contesting the name and waiting 1000 blocks until confirmed.(in this time the original name owner could react and bring higher his investment. may be you didn't read the hole thread but 200 NMC is would just th...

Re: [Proposal] Namecoin/DNSSEC integration

So I'm not clear on how DNSNMC makes this work unnecessary. [snip! see below] This work is for locally verifiable DNSSEC data, it's completely unrelated. See my reply to ryanc above. Doesn't DNSNMC force you to trust the operator of the DNSNMC server? My response is the same as in the other thread ...

Re: [Proposal] Namecoin/DNSSEC integration

DNSNMC/okturtles appears to only be addressing what DANE does, not DNSSEC in general. I read the paper, it doesn't look like DNSNMC/okturtles can authenticate SRV/MX/TXT record data. The goal of DNSNMC is to authenticate arbitrary data, it does not matter whether it is SRV/MX/TXT. Maybe I misunders...

Re: [SPEC] Domain name specification

The RFC is quite long, and the wiki is too short; perhaps you could help clarify something: what extra functionality does DANE offer that Namecoin by itself does not already provide? I know the question has already been answered, but it seems what I was getting at didn't get through. 1. DANE allows...

Re: Transitioning the web to Namecoin by addressing squatter

(1) You apparently are unaware of WikiLeaks, Pirate Bay, and the large number of other websites that have had domains seized. This was addressed in the HN thread : How do you determine who owns the .com domain? When a domain is seized by the government does the com/piratebay domain respect the bloc...

Re: Transitioning the web to Namecoin by addressing squatter

virtual_master proposed an auction-based system with a maximum fee: https://dot-bit.bit/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6653&sid=2cf37d245bbc611a8d93ad6ac23b9982#p6653 A few notes on this that weren't addressed in his post (read his post before you read the following): Thanks for the heads up biolizard, I re...

Re: Transitioning the web to Namecoin by addressing squatter

Anybody could contest a domain(1000 block waiting for ex) as long as the payed registration fee is lower then the maximum fee(200 NMC proposed). So if somebody reserved Google with 0.02 NMC Google can contest it for ex with 0.04 NMC and if nobody offers more in 1000 blocks ~ 1 week then it belongs ...
