Re: .conf RPC Authorization
Is that really common? On Windows, I always store config files in non-default locations because it's easier to find them (e.g. e:\nmc) rather than type %APPDATA%... Then when I need to change, script, backup or do anything related, I always know where to go. Maybe "regular" users who don't mess aro...

Re: .conf RPC Authorization
When installing Namecoin Core and e.g. NMControl for the first time NMControl fails silently because by default there is no namecoin.conf file. It will also fail if there are no RPC credentials in the conf file. How can we deal with this in a secure yet comfortable manner? Should NMControl ask the ...

Re: Porting v0.3.80 namecoin-qt "Manage Names" tab to nameco
Is there any work on-going to achieve this? I can help with building/testing/debugging and probably some juicy NMC bounty. Hi moa, Some people were wondering how much of a bounty you'd be willing to put up for this. Any chance you could specify this? Thanks. +1 Also I want to repeat here: The issue...

Re: Namecoin as Root-CA for .bit-domains/identities
Would it not be easier to locally create a certificate and add it as a root certificate to the system so that it can be used to authenticate all https .bit requests? Having a certificate per identity/domain in the blockchain would bloat the blockchain a lot. The idea is to sign a server- or S/MIME-...

Re: Name Squatting once again...
If I were miner, I would not mine NMC not to give my power. The less NMC network power is, the less squatter's domains cost. But you're not. If you were a bitcoin miner and understood economics and mining, you'd be mining NMC to get a better return on invested capital. Before starting to mine NMC, ...

Yes, ID transactions on http://coinsecrets.org is us migrating 32,000 uses to Bitcoin #blockstack https://twitter.com/muneeb/status/642714729169985537 Now we know the 30+K of "squatted" names will probably expire. I guess the anti-squatting proponents now have a reason to celebrate. H...

Re: Preferred language for NMControl-like things
If "from a user perspective" you mean the actual binary distribution, then Go ships monolithic, statically linked (aside from libc/kernel32/etc.) binaries. Much less that can go wrong compared to a Python program, which either needs the runtime installed in a place where it can be found or needs a ...

Re: Preferred language for NMControl-like things
I asked on the Tor-Dev mailing list yesterday about why they're not building Python in Gitian. Here is the thread. https://lists.torproject.org/pipermail/tor-dev/2015-September/009422.html Basically, they tried 2 years ago, and it was very hard, and they gave up. They haven't tried to do it since t...

Re: Name Squatting once again...
.bit zone is not supported by software and there is no any reason to add support for .bit into any software. Are there any good websites in .bit zone? No! But almost all good domains are taken by squatters. These arguments - if they were true - would mean that squatters have zero economic interest ...
