Re: Ubuntu (Debian) testers wanted

ps : for people interested in using the deb package, note that the directory of the wallet is /var/namecoind, so you need to copy your wallet here. Right, but if you test with your valuable wallet please have a backup at hand because for example an aptitude remove namecoind of the package definitel...

Ubuntu (Debian) testers wanted

I forked vinceds tree and have added debian/rules to the src directory. With this definitions you are now able to use dpkg-buildpackage in order to build an Ubuntu package. In theory Debian packages should work as well but it is untested. I have successfully builded on Lucid and Natty (both amd64 an...

The Bifröst Project

I want to announce my plans about building a webinterface for a dedicated Ubuntu server running namecoin and offering services like .bit name resolution. It is not yet started and I hope to get some ideas and feedback before starting. If someone is willing to help he'll be more than welcome. The cur...

Re: 51% Attack - Countermeasure Roundup

I did not go crazy. Shinning the light on a plan is the best way to determine it's merit. I talked to other people in the community and conclude that the plan was flawed. Umm.. yeah. Must be the reason why you was the only one mining on the wrong blockchain after all. Anyway thank you very much for...

Re: 51% Attack - Countermeasure Roundup

It's been interesting to watch. I still don't see how forking the blockchain would have helped as it would have given up more of the original chain over to the "attacker" and even legitimizing the fork later seems to be more of an attack than the 51% exploit. There are much better ideas to be done ...

51% Attack - Countermeasure Roundup

As you already know namecoin network was threatened by a 51% attack. We also announced that we were mounting a wall of defense. This threat seems to be over now. During the threat some people commited to namecoin joint forces in order to counter this attack. I really hope you understand that we didn...

Re: implications of merged mining / shared blockchain

By the way, does anybody knows what vinced thinks about all this? My guess: Sit back, watch this pile of headless chickens and wait until everybody concentrates. If they managed to focus try to find out the most agreed on solution and implement it. SCNR. Don't want to offend anybody, but we s...

Re: First-time build errors [noob question]

You may "strip" the binary on UNIX like systems, removing all unnessecary stuff:

Code: Select all

strip namecoind

Re: I have lost all communications with Namecoin network

As a workaround try to add master01.masterpool.eu to your bitcoin.conf and seed from there:

Code: Select all

addnode=178.63.100.86:8334

Re: [masterpool.eu] Merged Mining - 1% Fee - TX fees distrib

Dear MasterPool user you are getting this email because you registered on MasterPool. I'd like to inform you about a severe issue on namecoin blockchain. Due to the upcoming 51% attack to the namecoin network as outlined on the forums [1][2] MasterPool can not guarantee the safety of your namecoins....
