I had this same problem when using nmcontrol, and I opened it as an issue a couple of months ago but got no response. You can fix it by installing the python2 package (if you don't already have it), and then change the first line of nmcontrol.py to read "#!/usr/bin/python2" instead of "#!/usr/bin/py...
