I think a good start is to mirror every site about BTC with a .bit variant and make sure its obvious it has two domains.

Its slightly misleading as it IS a domain naming system although they are not backed by domains in the sense that people may think.

I was thinking, a small script to run a standing order type idea would not be difficult. How about a site offering DNS owners to point to .bit and in return they can get namecoins via a sort of pledge system So for instance I may pledge 5NC a month, these 5 coins get sent to an account and distrbute...

I think the main issue with this was the timeframe in which it was expected. To get the entire network to update is not an easy task (although the major pools doing this is a significant step)
