Problem solved. I needed to append these lines to my bitcoin.conf file
server=1
daemon=1
rpcport=8332
rpcallowip=192.168.1.*

How to solo mine with many pcs?
I currently have 4 pcs for mining. How can I point the miners to all work together as one solo mining effort.
