Re: Newbie looking to get involved

Okay, so I think I'm fine with something like this being added to the Dot-Bit spec... that said, limiting it to cookies might not be the best way to do it. Maybe a "noheaders" field, which contains an array of HTTP request headers which should not be sent? That way you can remove cookies as well as...

Re: Newbie looking to get involved

Okay, I see what you're saying. Would an acceptable workaround be to use mail.www.example.com (included), docs.www.example.com (included), and static.example.com (excluded)? Apparently not. The current standard for most large companies is to purchase a separate domain name for static content. I ima...

Re: Reserving the .bit TLD

Please fill me in. I am not trolling. I am genuinely interested in how Namecoin can make the internet more secure and decentralized. Also, it is still possible for an untrusted entity to store and provide information in a cryptographically verified manner. Have you heard of authenticated data struc...

Re: Reserving the .bit TLD

2. You don't seem to know what "former" means. Oops, my mistake. 3. Using random DNS servers that claim to import data from the Namecoin blockchain is not a safe way to browse .bit websites, particularly if everyone is using the same mandated DNS server as you suggest. 4. Do you have any idea how e...

Re: Newbie looking to get involved

Why should Namecoin not be used as a payment system? It is a crypto-currency. The currency aspect of Namecoin is mutually beneficial to the key-value store aspect. Miners are rewarded for their work with coins they can use to purchase things, and mining strengthens the security of the network as a ...

Re: Newbie looking to get involved

The way I understand how current cookies work is that the web server can either set the cookie for the site as a whole, or for a specific subdomain. There is currently no way to exclude cookies from a subdomain. This is a problem if a site, say Google, has many subdomains that all share login sessi...

Re: Newbie looking to get involved

Of course, if you want a system that incentivises spending, then demurrage is indeed more honest than inflation. Can you explain why you say that inflation is less honest? If you can guarantee a fixed inflation rate (perhaps by automatically adjusting the mining difficulty), everyone would expect t...

Re: Newbie looking to get involved

To be honest I don't see much practical benefit from this. Can you elaborate on a use case where this would make a significant difference? HTTP headers are pretty minimal in size already, even if using Tor or something like that. Here's a reason to do so: https://developers.google.com/speed/docs/be...

Re: Reserving the .bit TLD

My question is what happens if IETF reserves the .bit domain? Are they just going to sit on it, or will they point the .bit TLD to namecoin dns servers? It'd be great if they do the former and Namecoin usability would drastically grow. If they plan to sit on it though, I'd suggest we ask them not to...
