Re: How Currencies Work 101
I agree that a collaborative effort by peers agreeing to a common ruleset is going to be more flexible than a rigidly-defined system. The problems start when peers decide to not play by those rules, and since our subject cryptocurrencies don't have any enforcement to those rules aside from mutual ac...

Re: How Currencies Work 101
Good, it's nice to see people would like to debate this subject instead of simply crying foul over their "thing" being challenged. Only good things can come from meaningful dialogue! :D Except when the central authority itself becomes fraudulent, the failure is catastrophic. Decentralisation works i...

How Currencies Work 101
Full title should be "How Currencies Work 101: Why Bitcoin/Namecoin will ultimately fail as currencies" but thread titles can't be that long. :D Bitcoin (and obviously by extension, Namecoin) was built around two ideas that were intended to make them "ideal" from the standpoint of ending manipulatio...

Re: Namecoin GUI
Thanks for reporting this thing. Sadly, other gui softwares are compiled, so, this will be more difficult to check if they are ok... Yep, you're going to run into problems like this. Avoiding such issues would be why I updated my GUI/shell to include the sourcecode. I would recommend requiring sour...

Re: Quick-and-dirty namecoind GUI (Download link)

Tomorrow I'll update the ZIP to include the source code, so that it can be examined and compiled independently. Ended up not having a chance to update it yesteray,...

Re: Quick-and-dirty namecoind GUI (Download link)
If you run Windows as a "Linux-like" OS by deliberately configuring a separation between normal user and administrator, as is common in networked business environments for example, you'll need to run it as an administrator. If you run Windows using the default "user-is-also-an-administrator" securit...

Re: How can i see if i have generated a block
Yes, you do - nothing is persistent when it comes to mining unless you're working as part of a pool, and even then any accepted work would be lost if the namecoin daemon goes down.
